Summary: The most popular body contouring in 2017 might not be what you expect. It makes some sense to look at which procedures are consistently popular and which procedures are trending—moving up in a big way. Knowing that information can help us make decisions about where body contouring might end up in another six or twelve months.

Checking in With Body Contouring in 2017

Body contouring in 2017 is as popular as ever. But that term can mean an awful lot of things. After all, “body contouring” is a designed to be a rather broad umbrella, under which many procedures can find a place. So while the broad category of body contouring might be as popular in 2017 as it was in 2016, that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the same.

But looking at the most popular body contouring procedures of 2017 can give us some information about where these procedures might be headed in the future. Because, let’s face it, the most popular body contouring procedures are always going to be tummy tuck and liposuction.

That’s why it’s also a good idea to look at what’s trending. Procedures that are up and coming may not have the same popularity, but they can portend a sea change in the way that body contouring is performed. And, of course, all of this analysis is designed to answer the basic question: what is body contouring in 2017 like and where is it headed?

Let’s find out.

The Popular Body Contouring Procedure in 2017

I know I already kind of spoiled this, but it’s worth checking in again. As “body contouring” is commonly defined, the two most popular procedures are:

  • Tummy Tuck: Throughout the course of your life, there are many issues that could prevent you from obtaining a flat, firm tummy. One of those issues is excess skin, and that’s precisely what Tummy Tuck procedures are designed to accomplish. With the excess skin out of the way, your tummy area will look significantly more trim and fit.
  • Liposuction: Perhaps known around the world as the body contouring procedure, liposuction is a great way to eliminate unwanted fat from the body. Modern liposuction techniques allow even more control, helping the surgeon sculpt your body so the final results look natural and elegant. The basic idea is that it won’t look like you’ve had a procedure performed—it’ll just look like you’ve lost weight or started exercising a bit more.

Popular for a Reason

These procedures tend to be (and stay) popular for a reason. Liposuction and tummy tuck both address areas of concern that are common for patients. There are many people out there that want to exert more control over the shape of their bodies, and these two procedures are a particularly potent way to do that. They also tend to go hand-in-hand. Liposuction can create excess skin—tummy tuck can eliminate that excess skin.

When the two procedures are performed together, the results tend to be quite firm and fit looking.

Up and Coming Body Contouring Procedures

We can’t talk about trendy body contouring procedures without mentioning the all time trendiest: the Brazilian Butt Lift. For those of you who don’t know, a Brazilian Butt Lift (or BBL) is a procedure that is designed to improve the appearance and shape of the buttocks. And here’s the kicker: this procedure uses your own fat.

There are definitely a few appeals to this approach:

  • Patients like the “two birds with one stone” nature of a BBL: You get liposuction (removing fat from one area) and you get a rear end that is more to your liking. It’s almost like two procedures in one
  • The end results look and feel quite natural. That’s because those results are created using your own fat—your own biology. There’s nothing artificial about it. So your larger rear end looks and feels authentic because, essentially, it is.

The results of Brazilian Butt Lift procedures are hard to argue with. That might be one there’s one particular body contouring trend that’s been huge in 2017.

Fat Graft Procedures for Body Contouring

The year 2017 has definitely seen a significant rise in fat graft body contouring procedures. In some cases, this means fat graft breast augmentation or fat graft lip augmentation. There are even some fat graft facelift procedures. One thing to keep in mind about these fat graft procedures is that they all require liposuction.

And not all surgeons are sold on the effectiveness. Some surgeons see fat grafting procedures as significantly less reliable than, say, a traditional breast implant. That’s because some amount of fat doesn’t take to the new home—every time. And while there are ways to control for that, it’s still a somewhat unpredictable event.

Even still, body contouring in 2017 (as well as the years before and after this one) is growing to encompass ever more fat graft procedures. They’re procedures that have a special appeal for patients. That’s why I’m sure we’ll be seeing BBL and other fat graft procedures next to tummy tuck and liposuction before long, in 2017 and beyond.
